Choosing between Direct-to-Film (DTF) and Direct-to-Garment (DTG) can be challenging for clothing brands and print shops. While both deliver stunning full-color prints, they serve different production needs.
DTG printers perform best on 100% cotton fabrics. If you try to print on dark polyester, you face color migration issues. On the other hand, DTF printing is fabric-agnostic. Whether it's cotton, polyester, blends, or even leather, DTF transfers onto them flawlessly.
Pretreatment: DTG requires a tedious liquid pretreatment process for dark garments. DTF eliminates this step.
Consumables: DTF film and adhesive powder are highly cost-effective, offering a lower cost per print compared to DTG inks.
Feel (Hand-feel): DTG has a softer feel because the ink sinks into the fibers. DTF feels like a thin, flexible layer on top, but offers superior durability and wash fastness.
If your business focuses strictly on premium cotton t-shirts, DTG is an option. However, if you want to expand into sportswear, hoodies, caps, and diverse fabrics with lower operational costs, DTF printing is the clear winner.
